No Thunderbolt for New Mac Pro

What do you call a slow painful death? Torture. That’s probably how long time Mac Pro fans feel after the WWDC announcement of a refresh in the Mac desktop product line. Notably absent is Apple’s new Thunderbolt technology. Releasing a new Mac without Thunderbolt sends a clear message that the days a numbered for the product line.

Though seeming aimed at creative professional, the Mac Pro appears unsuited to many creative tasks given the panoply of currently shipping and announced Thunderbolt peripherals for the creative market. Some will also find the lack of GPU options to be telling. 12 core is nice, but not completely helpful if getting data into and out of your machine is s low and cumbersome.

The silver lining, I guess is the announement that the number of PCIe slots can be expanded through some mechanism. Whether this is a Magma like box remains to be seen.
