Many AV Companies, SAV included, use the Sony RM-BR300 remote. It has a lot of advantages – it’s light, responsive, and controls a wide variety of Sony robotic cameras. One disadvantage you may have encountered but are unsure how to remedy is sticky fingers. That’s right – you’re on a tough gig that allow for only short breaks and you do the big no-no — eat over your expensive equipment. Sometimes (almost all the time – we just rarely see it) gobs of gunk get on your equipment. Either by gravity or by… wait for it… sticky fingers.
I recently took apart and cleaned one of these remotes because sticky finger lead to, you guessed it, sticky keys. Sticky keys leads to switching errors when you doing a live show. Such attention to detail may seem a little obsessive, but when doing live work, the 5 deadly words you never want to hear is “we’ll fix it in post.” Also, the opportunity for a second chance never comes for a live audience. You get it right the first time or you never get it right.
I’m enjoying a lot of success with the the Vaddio controller but I’m not enjoying their cameras.
