Edit: This was originally posted in February 2011. Today, it was announced that Ms. Gbowee has been awarded the Noble Peace Prize. Congratulations to her and the other recipients for her service to humanity.
Peace Activist Leymah Gbowee gives a powerful acceptance speech at the 5th Annual Living Legends Awards For Service to Humanity at the Emmanuel-Brinklow Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Ashton, Maryland. This video clip was taped by church volunteers using Sony EVI-D70 standard definition robot cameras and professionally encoded by SAV. You have to admit that despite the free labor and lack of a real camera person – they did a good job. Sure the picture quality isn’t the best (mainly due to the fact that is was recorded straight to a consumer DVD recorder and on extended play to boot) but as you can see, still very viewable when professionally encoded.
Also, when the message is particularly compelling and the audio is well recorded as it is here, you can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Often, it is much more important to effectively efficiently and expeditiously broadcast you message than it is to create an artistic masterpiece.
* Pray the Devil Back to Hell is the title of the award winning documentary that chronicles the efforts of a small band of Liberian women, including Ms. Gbowee, to end violence in their country and neighboring African nations.
