History

Sandy Audio Visual LLC (SAV) is a premier audio-visual company headquartered in Prince George’s County, Maryland. As a proud African-American and Female-owned Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), certified by the US Small Business Administration, the State of Maryland and the National Minority Supplier Development Council, SAV is helmed by Carla and Colin Sandy, both distinguished Certified Technology Specialists (CTS).

Founded in 2010, Sandy Audio Visual was inspired by Colin’s father Cleve Sandy, PhD who devoted a lifetime to bettering the audio-visual industry. Our excellence in the industry has been recognized with prestigious accolades, including the Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award in 2014, 2018 and 2024, and three Television, Internet, and Video Association Peer Awards in 2021, notably for live webcasting.

Colin Sandy, CEO

Colin Sandy is the co-founder and CEO of Sandy Audio Visual, LLC, bringing a unique blend of legal expertise and 30 years of technical leadership to the AV industry. A graduate of Howard University School of Law, Colin previously served as Government Relations Counsel for the National Exchange Carrier Association, where he led the Washington, DC office and advocated before the FCC.

Colin has held numerous leadership and volunteer roles, including positions with the Federal Communications Bar Association, TIVA-DC, and the Russett Community Association. For over 15 years, he has served as a dedicated Video Director at Capitol Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He holds both Associate and Bachelor's degrees in Communications from Oakwood College and is a licensed attorney in Washington, DC, Maryland, and New York. Colin is also a proud husband and father of two.

Carla Sandy, CFO

Dr. Carla Sandy is the co-founder and CFO of Sandy Audio Visual, LLC. With over 15 years of industry experience, she brings a rare and dynamic blend of technology expertise and medical insight to the audiovisual space. In addition to her leadership at Sandy AV, Dr. Sandy is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist and a recognized Women’s Health advocate.


A proud graduate of Oakwood University and alumna of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Dr. Sandy completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She is passionate about healthcare equity and maternal health.

Outside of her medical and AV careers, Dr. Sandy is an active member of Women in Film and Video (WIFV), a Certified Technology Specialist, and a dedicated triathlete who has competed both locally and internationally. Her global travels and advocacy work reflect her passion for both technology and the well-being of women worldwide.

Kaywon Smith, Lead AV Technician

Kaywon Smith is a seasoned Media Specialist and AV Lead with a mission to deliver high-quality media experiences across live production, recording, and broadcast environments. With over a decade of experience, Kaywon currently serves as AV Lead at Sandy Audio Visual, LLC, where he directs a team of professionals in delivering award-winning audiovisual services.

Kaywon’s technical expertise spans VTC conferencing, live streaming, DSP integration, studio engineering, and large-scale event production. Certified through the Omega School of Recording Arts, Kaywon is highly proficient with Pro Tools, Tricaster, GrandMA2, Crestron, AMX, and a wide range of digital audio workstations and AV control systems. He combines deep signal flow knowledge with strong troubleshooting skills to ensure seamless, high-performance media delivery in fast-paced environments.
