NewTek Audio Control

There was a lot of confusion regarding iPads and audio control surfaces surrounding the NewTek TriCaster at NAB. Unfortunately for a third party developer in Spain, NewTek decided to announce a TriCaster audio control app the nearly the same day as his. So if you are wondering if the two iPad apps that control audio on the TriCaster are one and the same, they are not. NewTek also announced a partnership with Avid, which would allow their audio control surface to be used with the upcoming TriCaster 8000.

Speculation was high regarding what NewTek or others would do. I added my own two cents to the fray. NAMM was too early a prediction, and understandably too small a show to debut a new product. But I think the arguments are sound and the app is NewTek’s response. Some believed NewTek would never release such a product, and a few took that to heart by developing their own. We began down that road but decided there were too many potholes.

It will be exciting to see what the market eventually adopts. The Spanish app is available now and you can find out more information here. NewTek’s ship date for their app is TBD.
