No more waiting! You can buy it at B&H Photo or Amazon.com. They’re in stock and shipping now. These cameras have been extremely popular. Why? Because they’re awesome. We had a chance to check them out at NAB last Spring and immediately fell in love with these little powerhouses. If they are out of stock at B&H, you can get them at Amazon or vice versa. They generally have the best balance of great price, availability, and excellent customer service.

In a nutshell, the Canon XA 25 is extremely popular because:

4:2:2 uncompressed HD-SDI connection
Very small and light
Professional XLR connectors
Excellent image quality
Low light performance
Lack of noise

It’s the last bit that really impressed me. The Digic4 processor has been in my 1D Mark IV and other Canon products for some time, and the high ISO low light capabilities have been legendary. This video specific version of the Digic processor smooths out all of your blacks giving a very pleasing image.

When you see 4K footage from a lot of high-end cameras, the first thing you notice is the amount of noise in the image. Even though the resolution is extremely high, many equate high noise with low quality, when really what you’re seeing is every bit of detail that the sensor picks up before it gets blended through compression.

We’re looking forward to a full review from Vance and Mark over at TTFN and hope others post footage from their Canon XA 25 shoots – hopefully under crappy lighting conditions, where we think the XA 25 will really shine.
