Interesting Developments Surrounding ISE and Digital AV

Alternatives to the uncompressed SMPTE 2110 IP-based video standard are taking a prominent foothold in the industry. The SMPTE 2110 standard, which requires at minimum at 10Gbps network also comes with the requisite cost of procuring, building, and maintaining a “10G” network. Industry participants who don’t require the uncompressed signal 2110 offers, yet still need high quality IP-based video distribution have been eager to explore the alternatives and their accompanying cost savings.

Several manufacturers have made in-roads and have recently announced compressed video alternatives to the SMPTE standard. Crestron has announced it’s latest digital media offering, DM NVX, which is a JPEG2000 based technology. Audinate has also reached past the audio world to offer an IP-based video standard based on JPEG2000 they are calling “Dante AV”. NewTek, who took the industry by storm with their H.264 based network device interface (NDI), has seen their protocol incorporated in thousands of devices. One of the latest is Deltacast’s DELTA-neo N2H, an NDI to HDMI converter.
